2017 is the second year for which the Music Committee has completely adopted the Piobaireachd Society (Scotland)’s lists. The goals of doing so are to continue to lift the standard in New Zealand, to broaden the repertoire played here, and to be consistent with the pattern in other countries.
This year the Clasp and Gold Medal tunes are mostly classic tunes, well known in New Zealand. While most of the Silver Medal tunes are not widely known, we are confident that both teachers and players will be able to learn them and present them well. Here are some places to access resources for the Silver Medal tunes:
- Written music: all tunes are published (details in the tunes list on this page) and can be purchased here
- Recordings: PM Donald MacLeod CDs are also available here. For the tunes from PS Book 16, there are notes and in some cases recordings on the Scottish Piobaireachd Society’s website; but to access these you need to be a member.
CNP will post some expert guidance for the Silver Medal tunes on this website, as soon as this can be organised. This will be available to CNP members only.
We hope you enjoy the challenge of these fine tunes.
